The focus of this blog was originally limited to topics relating to business. At the time of my last post in late 2006, I was on the verge of becoming a full-time employee again, and abandoned this blog out of a respect for my responsibility as an employee. As an independent business person, consultant or contractor, it's much easier to make critical observations of clients or customers suitably anonymized so as to avoid violating privacy or confidentiality. As an employee, one's observations can too easily be associated (for good or ill) with your employer.
Howver, the sentiments I expressed in my "Why I Blog" post still apply, and I have many times felt compelled to share some thought or pass along some piece of information, and have finally decided that I really miss having this outlet.
My hope again is that some few of you out there may read and enjoy, be challenged or amused by some of the goofy stuff I decide to share. I am finding so much more worth discussing that this blog may actually appeal to a few more people than it did at one time.
In the past I was careful to stay in the relatively "neutral" area of business. In the years since my last post, I have been greatly concerned at the continually declining level of discourse on matters of public policy. This is going to compel me to try to put together some thoughtful posts on issues in this area. I have seen many people use Web 2.0 and social media tools as a means to behave rather outrageously, speaking as if issues are black and white and attempting to bludgeon the rest of us, conveying a sense that if we disagree with them that we must be either idiots or traitors.
While I will not hesitate to offer an opinion, and may question the basic values and beliefs, logic and conclusions that others may reach on some issues, I also promise to avoid doing so in a way that questions anyone's sincerity or honest concern about our community, our country and our civilization. I trust that some reader (however few you may be) will call my attention to any failure on my part in this effort.
So, I hope to make regular, if not frequent contributions to this blog, and welcome your comments and suggestions.
It's great to be back!
